Cards From The April 27 Class

April 27 was the last card class for me. After more than two years I have had to make a very difficult decision. It is hard to explain but as Don's Parkinson's Disease progresses, I need to eliminate stress. Several of the ladies had asked about using peg stamps. I have several sets from Rubber Stamp Tapestry and a number of the stick stamps from Stamps By Judith. It had been a long time since I had these stamps out. It was fun having all these stamps out.

The last card was a very simple, elegant sympathy card. I find that these cards are hard to make but it seems like I am needing more and more. The lilies are from the "Loving Memories" set from Our Daily Bread Designs stamped in Smoky Slate ink from Stampin' Up.

Sympathy Cards

All of a sudden, I need two sympathy cards for friends who have lost their husbands. I know that that is not an easy thing to go through. I just want to let them know that I am thinking about them and praying for them in this difficult time.

Both cards are monochromatic. Both use white and Pacific Point for the accent color.This first card uses the flower stamp from Stampin' Up 's set called "Touches of Texture". I colored the image using ink and a blender pen. I used a stamp from Stampin' Up's set "Waterfront" to add a little color to the white background. Both cards use the sentiment from "Simply Sketched" on the front and the inside sentiment is from the set called "Close As A Memory".

The second card using stamps from the set called "Petal Palette". I colored the images using ink and my "Aqua Brush". They were cut out using dies from the "Petals and More Thinlets" set.

2018 Sale-A-Bration Heartfelt Blooms

I needed a couple of cards this week so here is what I came up with. At first this stamp set did not jump out at me. I thought it was one that I could do without. After seeing a lot of cards made with the stamp set on Pinterest, I began to have different feeling about it. On the last Stampin' Up order that I sent in, I had the opportunity to get this set. The more I have seen cards made with it, the more I really love it.

Yesterday I needed a get well card. I also needed it a little larger than a regular A2 card. So here is what I did. Of course the focal image is from the set "Heartfelt Blooms" stamped with "Wisteria Wonder" ink on white card stock. It is layered on a piece of Wisteria Wonder card stock. The card base is white. Found a piece of Designer Series Paper in Wisteria Wonder. When I was checking the pieces and layout, I found that the white card base was to stark; it was too white. I started looking through my stamp sets and decided on using a stamp from the set called "Touches of Texture". I stamped it around the exposed edges. What a difference that made.

The next picture shows the back of the card. When I was all done, I turned the card over. In the upper left corner, there was a big, dark ink smear. I didn't have time to start over. What could I do? I thought about ways that I might cover it up or I could just leave it. I didn't like the last idea. What I ended up doing was punching a 1 1/4" square from the Designer Series Paper, cutting it on the diagonal and covering up the smear with one of the triangles. It sort of matched the front of the card. Good or bad, that is what I did.

The second card I needed was a sympathy card. I find these cards difficult to make. I used the same stamp set "Heartfelt Blooms". This time I stamped it with a Stampin' Up retired color called "Brocade Blue". I had seen a card on Pinterest where part of the image had been cut it such a way that it hung over the edge. I wanted to give it a try. I also stamped the image twice so that I could cut out the main flower and attach it over the main image to add interest and dimension to the piece. The sentiment I used is from a Our Daily Bread Designs set called "Loving Memories". Here is a link to the original card I saw.

Joy Fold Sympathy Card

Having fun making cards using the "Joy Fold".  As always, I have used several sets to make this card and I love all of them. I used "Colorful Seasons", "Best Birds" and "Flourishing Phrases" -- all by Stampin' Up.

For the card base I used Primrose Petal card stock. The inks I used were Memento Rich Cocoa, Blushing Bride and a touch of Primrose Petals in the centers of each punched flower.

CAS317 and PP237 -- Field of Tulips

My card today ended up being for two challenges. First I printed off a copy of the sketch challenge for this week at The Paper Players. As I was looking at it and thinking about the CAS challenge to use "flowers from bulbs", this idea came to me. I have always loved seeing pictures of the fields of tulips in Holland. About sixteen years ago when I really got into flower gardening, I planted lots of bulbs. After all these years many are still coming up every spring. I wanted to try an create an image that looked like a field of tulips. I then used the sketch challenge as a guide to finishing my card.

 

The flowers were created using the Stampin' Up set called "Painted Petals".  The stems were stamped using three inks -- Memento New Sprout and Bamboo Leaves and Stampin' Up's Pear Pizzazz. For the flowers, I used SU Primrose Petals and So Saffron. I tried to stamp two or three times before reinking. I sponged a little tumbled glass distress ink at the top and a little Memento Bamboo Leaves over the stems. The sentiment is from SU's Petite Pairs stamped in Primrose Petals, layered with Primrose Petals and Certainly Celery card stock. The banners were made from bits of paper I found in my scrap box.

CAS307 -- Just Words

Today's  challenge was to "use just words". My "Happy Birthday" comes from a retired Stampin' UP set called "A Greeting For All Reasons". It is a great set that I go to often.

 

 I made this card for a friend who lost her mother last week. I used Spellbinder dies and a stamp from Our Daily Bread Designs.

I have found myself needing several sympathy cards this past week. I used today's sketch challenge to make a card this evening. I used SU Not Quite Navy card stock for the base and designer paper from My Mind's Eye "Lost and Found3" 6x6 pad. I used a stamp from SU Asian Artistry set for my focal image. I should use this set more often; I really like it.
