SC542

Time to post this week's sketch challenge.
When I saw the sketch I was not sure how to use it. I thought about it all morning as I was doing other things that needed to be done. This was the card that I finally made. I used the Cricut to cut my flags, a sheet of sei designer paper and a birthday greeting from the Watercolor Trio stamp set. It was fun to see the card come together. I did change the orientation of the layout.

One card -- Two Challenges

Sometimes creating a card can be a challenge. Challenges can be a creative way to get started.

This is the card that resulted for both challenges. It needed to be a "girly" thank you card for The Paper Players challenge, and it needed to follow the design for the sketch challenge. I used SU Pretty in Pink card stock for the base, a light pink for layer 1 and white for all the other layers. The lacey edges were made from a new die that I recently purchased, cut down the center and glued to the back of the white card stock. The image is from an old stamp set from Stampin' Up called "Summer By The Sea" which was colored with Prisma colored pencils. I used heart shaped enamel dots for the ribbon (layers 5 and 6) because of the small space available. As I was assembling the card, there was not enough contrast between the pinks so I sponged "worn lipstick" distress ink around the edges of the card base. I love the resulting color.

I wish everyone a safe and fun "Memorial Day Weekend".

Using The Leftovers

On Monday, I made a card for two challenges. I cut the SU hexagon hive die twice--once out of Pistachio Pudding and then Lost Lagoon. I used the pieces I needed for my card but still had leftovers that I could not throw away. Since I needed an anniversary card for my son and daughter-in-law, I made a second card using those pieces and the same stamp set.  I was a couple of days late getting it in the mail. Hope they will forgive me.

SC540

Today there was a new sketch challenge at SplitCoast Stampers. Because of other responsibilities, I am really late at getting my card finished and posted. I am not really happy about the way the card turned out, but I don't have time to remake it. I think I would have been happier with the card had I made an accent layer for the top panel, OR maybe the top layer is just too busy for the designer paper. If I have a chance, I would like to try making another card with this sketch.

I used SU Pool Party card stock for the base and Crisp Cantaloupe as the accent color. The designer paper was from a 6 x 6-inch pad by We R Memory Keepers called "simply spring". I used SU "Circle Circus" and peg stamps from Stamps by Judith for the top panel.

New Week -- New Challenges

This afternoon I made one card for two challenges. That does not happen often. I seem to go one at a time. The challenge this week at The Paper Players is a color challenge. The colors of choice are: Lost Lagoon, Pistachio Pudding and Sahara Sand. I have the first two colors but not the Sahara Sand. I tried my best to find a good match in all my papers but really did not come up with a good one. I did the best I could. I chose a sheet of Bazzill card stock in the color "Taffy". It is much lighter than Sahara Sand but seemed to be the best match.

The second challenge was the CAS challenge at SplitCoast Stampers which was to make a "thank you" card. I need one of these so the challenge was a perfect fit.

I was able to attend the Michigan Scrapbooker's Mega Meet on Saturday in Novi, Michigan. It was fun to shop with several of my favorite vendors and see all the new things on the market. One stop was "The Stamps of Life" booth. I purchased a set of dies with two coordinating stamp sets. The stamps I used today were from the set called "chalk sayings 2 stamp". The card base is the Bazzill Taffy card stock. I used the hexagon hive die cut from Pistachio Pudding for the second layer. I cut the die a second time using Lost Lagoon. I layered some of the Lost Lagoon cut outs onto the Pistachio Pudding layer. Then I added three little flowers which were stamped with the SU "Pictogram Punches" set. They were stamped with Lost Lagoon ink onto Lost Lagoon card stock and punched out using the coordinating punch.

Thank you for stopping by my blog.

SC539 -- Mother's Day

Mother's Day is always a bittersweet time for me. My mother has been gone 15 years and my mother-in-law 14 years. They both were very special ladies and had much influence on my life. I have a daughter and a son. Both are married, have families of their own and live two too three hundred miles away. They both make Mother's Day special for me. I wanted to make a card for my daughter and daughter-in-law so I chose to use this week's sketch challenge as my inspiration.

I had a new stamp set from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps called "Treasured" that I had not yet used. As I looked at the words, I realized that both Angela and Janet were all of these: Mother, Daughter, Sister Friend and Aunt. There was also a phrase that said "You are treasured". I used all those words to create my background paper and then followed the sketch for all the other layers. SU Primrose Petals was the card stock and ink that I used along with white and green for the leaves. I was very pleased with the result.

Wishing each of my friends a "Happy Mother's Day".

CAS323 -- Happy May

I have been able to make a card for this week's CAS challenge at Splitcoast Stampers. We were to use the letters in the word "MAY" as our guide.

Here is what I came up with--
M -- Morning Meadows stamp set
A -- Always Artichoke ink and aqua (from Lost Lagoon ink which looks more blue in the picture than in real life).
Y -- You're Lovely stamp set and yellow stickles

I started out to make a one layer card, but when I messed up on the stamping, I cut the layer off and continued to make my card without starting over. For the final touch, I used one of my stencils and added a little color to the opposite corners.

This is how I put it all together--
